An Unusual Peace and Quiet in Our School
Tuesday, 24 September 2013 Written by fra Ivica Perić

An Unusual Peace and Quiet in Our SchoolIt's very peaceful and quiet. Truly unusual! In our Padri Vjeko Vocational Training Center it has really been extremely quiet these days. There is no clamour, no children's voices, no sound of flip-flops sliding on the classroom floors, no laughter during the break. But, don't worry, nothing bad has happened.

Just the opposite! We have sent our students throughout Rwanda to do their practical lessons. Although, during the year, the students in our school constantly have practical lessons, going out to the real world where they work with other craftsmen on real-life projects is also very important for their training. Such experience is priceless!

So, during the next two months, the students - carpenters, welders, plumbers, electricians and tailors - will learn their trade in real projects. True, the tailors will come back a bit earlier, but only because there is a big job waiting for them in our school. They will have to make as many as 300 new school uniforms for the next intake of new students that will enroll in our school in January.

And the builders... We didn't have to send them anywhere. They have been working with trained craftsmen on the construction site of the second building of our future secondary school. They work, they build, they learn... Soon, they too will become talented craftsmen and all the construction companies in Rwanda will compete among each other to employ them.

We are eager to see our students back. To see how far have they gotten with their practical knowledge!
